About Us
The Black Girls Mental Health Collective (The Collective) is dedicated to empowering Black women and girls through culturally responsive mental health services, education, and advocacy. We understand the unique mental health challenges faced by our community, often rooted in systemic barriers, stigma, and historical trauma. Our mission is to create accessible and inclusive spaces where Black women and girls can receive the support they need to heal, grow, and build resilience. By providing high-quality mental health care, maternal mental health programs, and peer-led initiatives, BGMHC works to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to prioritize their well-being.
At BGMHC, we are committed to addressing mental health disparities by offering programs that focus on trauma-informed care, perinatal mental health, social support, and family well-being. Our services include individual therapy, training for birth workers and healthcare providers in perinatal mental health, and community-based workshops that empower parents to navigate the early stages of raising children. We also emphasize the importance of building strong networks of support, creating spaces where Black women and girls can connect, share experiences, and foster meaningful relationships.
Our organization is driven by a vision of inspiring lasting social change, improving the quality of life for Black women and girls, and advocating for mental health equity. We work closely with community partners, healthcare providers, and policymakers to expand access to culturally competent care and raise awareness about the importance of mental health. Through our efforts, we aim to break down barriers, amplify voices, and transform mental health outcomes for our community, one step at a time.
The Collective + The Foundation
The Foundation is the Black Girls Mental Health Collective’s non-profit arm. As a branch of the Black Girls Mental Health Collective, The Foundation enhances The Collective's ability to provide direct client care. Through the research and funding secured by The Foundation The Collective is able to increase our efforts and reach when working to improve Black maternal health outcomes.
